Why is it important to you for (more) women to build lasting careers in technology?

We need more women in technology fields because there are so many exciting discoveries, inventions, and improvements happening every day that it boggles the mind. In software development, just like every technology field, we need people who are not just smart, but also creative, passionate, competitive, and empathetic, all at once. If you’re a person that likes to be challenged mentally, rewarded creatively, and well compensated financially, technology fields are where you want to be.

What does Grace Hopper mean to you?

The Grace Hopper Celebration provides an important validation and inclusion for women who may be interested in technology. The conference attendees, sessions, and keynotes is a way of saying “yes, we want you, and yes, you can do this if you want to”. That sense of inclusion is essential for any person joining any field, and it’s especially important for women in tech because there are so many contradictory messages women get from schools, friends, families, and the media. As a man attending the conference, it’s also a great learning experience to be a part of the minority for once.

Where will be seeing you around GHC?

You can find me at the career fair and mixed throughout all the sessions. I’ll probably gravitate towards tech/emerging tech and open source tracks.
